Nepal, worldwide known for its natural beauty
is also the country which is appreciated for its multi-cultural,
multi-lingual and multi-religious aspects. Though like dew in a
Pacific ocean it is so rich in diversity that we are usually used
to call it a country with “Bividhata ma Yekata” meaning
“Unity in Diversity”. The diversity is created in the
country due to the many castes and sub-castes that dwell here with
their unique cultural practices. Among them Magar is the largest
indigenous caste group with its own cultural background, unique
ritual and traditional practices and which covers more than 30%
of total area of the country. However, Magar community is one of
the historically suppressed, distorted and backward societies. Most
of the Magar people are illiterate, ignorant and under the line
of poverty. Therefore, almost the total population of Magar people
is lagging behind in the main stream of the state.
Looking at this fact, among Magar students there was a realization
of an urgent need for joining hands together to fight for the
scientific, applied, vocational and equal education system and
also against any kinds of unjust done in the name of caste, culture,
religion and language. This realization was the base for the establishment
of formal Magar student’s organization in 2051 B.S. The
organization was named as Nepal Magar Students Association (NMSA)
which is now the umbrella organization of whole Magar students
of Nepal.
Nepal Magar Student Association fights for all kinds of discriminations
on the basis of caste, culture, creed, language, gender as well
as political, social, administrative and regional degradation,
harassment and discouragement. By it's all the channel of more
than 48 districts and more than 6 zonal committees; it is creating
awareness and raising voice against autocracy, tyranny and regression.
Co-operating with different political, indigenous and other organizations,
it is uniting Magar students and making them aware about justice,
independency, equality and co-existence.
Nepal Magar Students Association is the founder and also one
of the member organizations of the Nepal Indigenous Nationalities
Students Association. It has finished its glorious Fourth National
Congress and celebrated Eleventh Anniversary. Inclusive Democracy
with Federal Republic, equality, justice, social security, human
rights and fraternity are common goals and objectives of the organization.
To aware, to mobilize and to organize Magar students,
as well as to preserve and to progress Magar language, culture,
customs, tradition and community are our main objectives.
